Her Approach

Roz's outlook on food is inspiring brilliant, the whole concept made me change my entire outlook between "dieting" and "healthy eating". I'm such a fan of all of Roz's books and her blog as well. The approach she encourages towards food and towards eating is nearly so simple, you could overlook it. So what exactly is this all about – cooking of course, cooking old-school for that matter, ever bit of the process from scratch. This is something I enjoy anyway, I love cooking my meal from the basics, understanding what exactly I've pt into it and all the effort that has gone in to each meal. Sometimes it can be tough after a long day and you might just want to pop a microwavable dinner in and wait a couple minutes. But this is what I love so much about Roz's books, she has combated this issue with simple cooking, one of her other books "Half Hour Hero" is filled with great meals you can cook in a half hour or less. I think everyone can spare a half hour for a meal that will taste a hundred times better than anything you plan on microwaving.

Roz promotes the use of natural ingredients. Avoiding processed foods as much as possible is the key to a healthy, balanced diet. Everything from smoothies to curry's, Roz will show you exactly how to enjoy your food will staying on track with your health. In turn, you'll find you feel and look better in so many ways. Your body craves natural goodness, nutrients you get from fresh unprocessed foods. Having a diet inclusive of all of this will improve your health, your mind and your energy levels too. Who doesn't want that?

My Experience

At first, I'll admit it takes time to used to cooking again, I personally don't count a microwave as cooking. But, if your health is important to you, a little determination and after a week it will be second nature and you won't be able to go back to your bad habits, trust me! I've tried so many different cook books before. Some I loved, but usually I find I buy loads of spices and ingredients that might be used once in the entire book. There's nothing worse than over-flowing presses filled with things you're trying to use up. I started adding chilli's to things chilli's should never be added to, just to not waste anything! However, with all of Roz's books, her ingredients are so common and simple. My cupboards are (nearly) always stocked with what I need, and if not she is sure to have more recipes I can use them in, if I do decide to make the purchase, so nothing is ever wasted. Waste is one of my pet peeves, so this has to be one of my make or breaks for cook books. So if you're wondering on picking up that ingredient that seems strange, or leaving it out, I suggest you do get it because I can't imagine you'll have any issue using it up.

Overall Thoughts

The takeaway would certainly be a 9/10. Roz's techniques are beyond practical, even for those who aren't all that great in the kitchen. If you're not sure whether to invest in the books yet, take a look at her blog here. The blog is perfect for quick ideas to get you started on your journey. But for anyone who is serious about taking some steps towards a healthier lifestyle/diet, then the books are a great investment and will go down a treat with the whole house.

For anyone with more restricted diets, there is recipes completely gluten or dairy free, or just inclusive of alternatives too. There is also plenty of options for anyone living a Vegan lifestyle too, and everything is highlighted toward this well.

This has to be the best cook book I've purchased from the variety of recipes alone. You won't be able to get sick of your meals, or even dread eating healthy, it'll be something you'll look forward to everyday. I've also saved so much with these books compared to others. Roz is very conscious of trying to make healthy eating as affordable as possible for everyone. As it can seem daunting at first when you try incorporate a healthy diet, as all the junk is usually half the price. But, you'll be shocked how affordable this really is.

Overall the best takeaway from Roz's books is how she proves that altering how we eat doesn’t need to lead to starving ourselves or denying ourselves flavour but instead how we could enjoy our meals even more than before, and still make a healthy change to our lifestyle.

Roz's books are available here for about €5 on Kindle or just over €15 in paper back version also. Has anybody tried these? Feel fry to comment how you got on, what your favourite recipes are, if there's anything else I need to try.

Thanks for reading,

Char
