Spain to Fly up to 6,000 German Tourists to the islands of Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza.

Is it time to start packing?

In an attempt to get tourists back to the sun-drenched beaches of the Balearic Islands, Spain has announced a pilot program. Forecasting to begin June 15, Spain is offering to fly up to 6,000 German tourists to the islands of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The breakdown of which is roughly 4,000 to Majorca. 1,000 to Ibiza and another 1,000 will be granted access to visit Menorca.

The idea of the “safe-travel” program is to slowly allow tourism to pick up in these areas, by tracking arrivals from specific destinations. To such reason, Germany was selected as the first collaborator. By permitting only a few thousand in, Spain can test the waters for open tourism, which is scheduled to reopen July 1st. Indicating any key data to tourism boards for the reopening.

Tour operators include TUI, Schauinsland, and Der Touristik. These companies were contracted authorisation for up to 6,000 Germans to fly during this time. These tourists also have been informed they will not have to adhere to the two-week quarantine currently enforced.

At the moment, The Canary Islands are in deliberation to a comparable test program. A sun holiday may not be off the cars this year after all!
