Clearing your head will help you focus on the more important things in life.

Has anyone else realised they’ve not been taking enough time relax, give themselves a little head-space and just completely clear their minds? You’d think given everything going on that we’d have nothing but time to think…but I’ve just found the past few weeks I’ve not switched off once. With my work now with me all the time. I’m constantly tempted to check some emails or just log on to fix a few bits. When I’m not working, I find myself exercising to make up for lost time at the gym. If possible I’ve been fitting so much less into my day and have had absolutely no time for me. So this weekend, I decided to completely switch off and just clear my mind of everything. If anyone else has been struggling lately try some of these tips, I already feel refreshed and ready to take on the week ahead again.

Fresh Air

Whenever I get really stressed the only thing I seem to crave is air. It’s like all of the oxygen in the house isn’t enough and just by getting outside it becomes so much easier to breather and relax. Usually when I need fresh air, I love to go for a long walk on the beach, it is certainly one of my favourite things to do. But right now we’re a bit limited and I haven’t been able to get to the beach in weeks. I am lucky to live in the country, so it’s the next best thing really. I don’t think I could relax at all going for a stroll around town, there’s nothing like getting out on your own completely surrounded by nature. For me, this is the quickest way to relax and come back down to earth.

Let Go Of Negativity

Sometimes we forget it but at the end of the day, it’s really you alone who is in charge of your mind — if your day has been utterly bogged down with negative thoughts, you are the only person who can change this. If you allow all the negatively into your mind all the time, then it’s going to be pretty hard to be a particularly good mood ever. So, where possible the best course of action it to just let go of all the negativity. By doing this, you’ll start seeing everything more clearly. What’s the point in all that excessive stress? My thoughts? If it won’t matter 6 months from now, why worry about it now.

Cleaning

Believe it or not, when I need to clear my head I cleaning a great way to do it. It can be really therapeutic. I don’t know if there’s something symbolic nearly in the act of physically decluttering and tidying your belongings. Whether this transposes then onto your mental state. Regardless of why, cleaning nine times out of ten will calm me down and put me back on track. My motto – a tidy life makes way for a tidy mind.

Read A Book

Spending a couple of hours consumed completely by a new book is one sure way to take a step back from your own mind. By diving head first into a completely different world, one of someone else’s thoughts, fears, and delights, you’ll find yourself entirely switched off from your own thoughts. One of the simplest forms of escapism in today’s world.

Dispose of the Unnecessary

I’ll say it once again, “tidy home, tidy mind”. Or if you prefer the saying “clean house, clean head”. Decluttering your surroundings can really have an amazing impact for your mind. And while cleaning can have a positive impact on your mind, getting rid of unnecessary clutter is another step up entirely.

Throwing away things that are old, or no longer have any meaning to us, is an effectual method of allowing your mind to achieve clarity, focus, and balance. Often we may find ourselves too lazy to remove these things from our lives, or we may have simply stopped noticing their existence. Before we know it, we’ve become enveloped by redundant, energy-draining clutter. This clutter can create negative environment in we surround ourselves, leaving us more often than not in a bad mood.

So why not start by getting rid of some items you know you won’t miss like old toothbrushes and air fresheners. Let’s face it after a certain point these items do more harm than good! How about that dried up nail polish, you probably can’t twist open the lid anymore anyway. Next start clearing by expiration, out-of-date medication, you will never ever use it again. What about that old Nokia charger? Dump that!!

Do Yoga.

Yoga is the perfect example of working on you from the outside-in. It’s not always about what your can do with your mind, you don’t necessarily have to muse over your journey in life. Yoga is all about taking some time for you, using breathing and stretching techniques to lower your stress levels and acquire a clearer mind. During yoga you don’t actually have to think about anything, just turn your mind completely off.

Sometimes, there’s a limit to what we can figure out at this point in time. And you’ll have to accept this, just keep showing up with a smile and wait for things to sort themselves out.
