The Moorings Bistro Bar

The Moorings Bar & Restaurant Dungarvan
The Moorings Bar & Restaurant

One of my favourite restaurants in Dungarvan has to be The Moorings. Located on Davitts Quay, Dungarvan. If you like good food while enjoying a gorgeous view, then you’ll love The Moorings. It’s just a lovely little Bistro-Bar, with a great reputation in the area and it’s set up in an amazingly picturesque location. Overlooking Dungarvan’s beautiful harbour. It’s the perfect spot to chill with a couple drinks on a nice day, go for a coffee catch-up or it even makes for a great date night!

As the weather wasn’t the best and it was a little chilly the day we went, we opted for indoor seating. Inside the pub has such a charming feel to it. The design is quite rustic while fitting with the whole location based theme it has going. To me, the atmosphere was ideal for a quite Sunday meal, the place was buzzing with people. However, as the building was quite spacious the sound never carried from everyone there. Perfect for enjoying you meal.

The food was absolutely unbelievable, I was seriously impressed with it. For starters we shared the BBQ chicken wings with the Tiger prawns. There was so much to share between us. We nearly always go for wings to start, so expectations have grown with these, but I have to say, definitely some of the best wings we’ve had. The prawns were a whole other level though. Served in a bed of garlic butter with chilli, like what more could you want? There wasn’t as much in the portion, but for prawns I think it was the most generous serving I’ve ever had anyway. The prawns also come with a delicious crusty bread, which FYI is so good dipped in to the sauce. The Wings were €8.50 and the prawns €10.50. They were the more expensive options on the menu, other starters can cost €5 or €6 that looked good too, but we are creatures of habit and couldn’t not try these too. Especially when Dungarvan is known for its seafood, the prawns were a must.

This is a snap of our prawn starter - how good does it look?

For the main I ordered the Cajun Chicken Fillet Burger. I was recommended this before we arrived as one of the best options to choose from. Burgers are one of my favourite foods and this was not a let-down at all. It was a really generous size and every bite was filled with flavour. This dish comes with chips and coleslaw. I have to say coleslaw with a burger is underestimated and showed be offered more than it is. Most burgers averaged about €15, which I am always happy to pay for a good meal.

In the end our entire meal of two starters and two mains cost about €50 which I would consider to be the norm for a typical bar bistro. However, the quality of the food was much higher and you could tell just how fresh everything was. I would certainly be back anytime I’m in Dungarvan.

As always, thanks so much for reading. If anyone has been to The Moorings please let me know in the comments how you got on and if you have any recommendations for next time.
