Keeping Motivation in the Gym

It can be so hard to stay motivated 24/7. So here's some ways I try to keep myself in the right mindset:

1. Train Early

Personally, I find if I wait to exercise in the evenings I just get so demotivated and sluggish. After work all I want is to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and a hot water bottle. Ideally, I would get up before work and have a good workout completed and have my day off to a good start. I also find if i'm productive early I'm in a better mood for the day and I'm so focused with everything else I do. So many benefits.

2. Attend Classes

Understandably working a 9-5 is not easy and some morning you just don't spring out of bed. The mornings I need extra sleep I'll make sure and pack clothes to go straight to the gym after work, going home I would never go back! What I also find helps a lot is booking myself into a class like spinning.

I normally do my weights in the gym and often do my cardio in classes so I'm not tempted to get lazy. I love spinning and Muay Thai classes especially. They're so good if you're looking to sweat and burn a few calories.

3. Online Motivation

A lot of people won't agree with finding motivation online, but I have found some great trainers and really noticed a difference since following programs. The best trainer I've found yet is Lisa Lanceford.

I would consider myself athletic, I've squatted as heavy as 115Kgs, I've often done distance runs ranging 10k to 20k, and I competitively swam for years. So I struggle to find anything tough enough online.

I came across one of Lisa's ab programs on Instagram, where each move was performed was done 4 times and performed 20 seconds for beginners ranging to 60 seconds for advanced. Naturally I thought I'd try the advanced...I dropped after 20 seconds every time. It was so tough but amazing.

Now, I perform everything to the advanced level but it took time to build up to, I'm really impressed and I rarely say that with trainers. I love her programs, have lost close to 7Kgs and really toned up since I've discovered this.

4. Don't Miss a Monday

My opinion is Monday is the breakfast of the week. Just like it's important to start your daily routine with a good breakfast. It's crucial to start your weekly routine with a good Monday workout. Obviously, life can get in the way and things happen, but I rarely miss a Monday workout and I find it sets me up for the week...bank holidays don't count for me though, if the country is taking a holiday so should you!

5. Relax

The most important thing I've learned recently is to relax. I used to always freak out about missing a days training or having a bad meal. But that's so much stress, pressure and just so not enjoyable. I want to be in great shape, I want to feel great and be healthy but I don't want to ever dread it. I love food, I won't really restrict myself it's all about balance. I try eat my greens and my fruit, but when I crave something not so good I let myself have it, especially on weekends!

Hope this helps some,

Charlotte
