The Rolling Donut

This weekend we visited my sister in Kildare for some much needed retail therapy. After spending a couple hours surveying all WhiteWater had to offer, we made our way to Kildare Village. Kildare Village is possibly one of the most picturesque places I’ve ever been, it’s stunning to even walk around there or stop for a coffee.

We were absolutely starving after the long day and found a stall of The Rolling Donut. Such a timely and relieving find. The aroma literally wafted around the village and I followed it until we found where it was coming from. As it’s only a stall, they sell selected donuts on the day, with great deals. Between the 3 of us, we purchased. My pick was The Dub” – A chocolate ganache covered donut filled with vanilla cream custard. My god, this might very well be the best donut I’ve ever had. This coming from a girl with a donut obsession, who has tried as many as I can fit in my body. In our box of 3 we also tried the “Red Velvet” – A sourdough base, topped with red velvet. This one was filled with a delicious vanilla cream cheese and a raspberry chocolate ganache. Next up, the Pistacho Salted Caramel”- Covered with pistachio on top & stuffed with a delicious salted caramel filling. (As the name suggests). Lastly, Katie then picked up two Hazelnut Crunch” – (one for Nutella lovers) the entire donut was filled with Nutella and had hazelnuts sprinkled on the top. I didn’t try these but I definitely will next time, they looked unbelievable!

If you find yourself in Kildare Village be sure to treat yourself to at least one, if not more, of these incredible donuts. A box of 3 will only set you back €8. And because there’s a deal for buying three, you may as well get 3 different flavours and taste them all, as you’re saving anyway.

The Rolling Donut have a couple stores around, not just in Kildare either! There is actually six stores all over Dublin. (If ever there was a reason to move city, just to have donuts at my disposal all day every day). I’ll stick the addresses below here:

  • There’s a kiosk on 8 O’ Connell St. Lower, Dublin 1

  • Some stores - 34 Bachelors Walk, Dublin 1

  • 55 South King Street, Dublin 2

  • Swords Pavilions Malahide RD,

  • Liffey Valley Shopping Centre

  • 22 Fonthill RD, Clondalkin, Dublin 22

  • And one more in Kildare – Nurney Road, GreyAbbey, Kildare.

Some of the other flavours they have that I cannot wait to try are The Coffee Lover” – with a coffee & walnut filling, glazed with rich coffee, chocolate coffee beans and drizzled with even more chocolate. “The Kinder Bueno- another sourdough donut, filled with a smooth kinder Bueno insert and a white chocolate & hazelnut ganache. Bailey’s Bliss” – I love a good baileys, one of the most delicious most creamiest things on the planet, I can only imagine how good it is in donut form! But, the one I am dying to try most, surprise, surprise is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup” – If there’s one thing I love more than chocolate, it’s peanut butter chocolate. This one wasn’t there the day I was shopping, but its filled completely with peanut butter and topped with a chocolate ganache AND a Reece’s peanut butter cup. I could probably live on that alone, if it was possible.
